Tammy Lobato was elected as the Member for Gembrook in November 2002. and was re-elected in 2006.
The electorate of Gembrook is a large, diverse and picturesque area which covers suburban areas (including large sections of the south east growth corridor) as well as much of the Dandenong Ranges and numerous townships throughout the Warburton Highway ending near Matlock.
Tammy lives in the township of Gembrook and has two children Archie, 10 and Ashleigh 5. She grew up in Tecoma, attending Tecoma Primary and Upwey High School. After becoming a mum, Tammy returned to study at Chisholm Institute to undertake a diploma of Community Development and then to Victoria University to complete a BA in Community Development. Having children led her to want to play an active role in the community, realising the importance of participating in order to create a better society for the future of our children.
In 2002, while completing her degree Tammy gave birth to Ashleigh and campaigned for the State Election. Tammy has since continued to be a tireless, grassroots, campaigner on behalf of residents throughout the electorate.
Tammy is a proud member of the following organisations:
Greenpeace,Gene Ethics,Greyhound Safety Net, Women’s Forum Australia, World Vision, Casey-Cardinia Branch of the National Trust, Australian Conservation Foundation, Women’s Electoral Lobby, Amnesty International, Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater, Cardinia Environment Coalition, Friends of Bunyip State Park, Friends of Kurth Kiln, Warburton-Millgrove Football Club and Berwick Township Committee, among others.
Tammy prides herself on being accessible to all residents in the electorate and acknowledges the difficulty for some people with having her office at one end of the district. That is why Tammy began conducting mobile offices, which ensures accessibility for all even in the most remote townships and continues these five years since being first elected.
Tammy is proud of her numerous achievements including upgrades and re builds to many schools, various road projects, natural gas connection to parts of the Upper Yarra, new and improved facilities for our emergency services and in general her commitment to improve our community for our future.
