Specific Question and Answers:

1. How will you encourage the development of the Warburton Caravan Park pool precinct? How have you been involved in this process to date?

At the 11th September meeting, Council resolved to:

1. Adopt the Warburton Caravan Park and Recreation Precinct Master Plan.

2. Note the Warburton Caravan Park and Recreation Precinct Master Plan Community Engagement document.

3. Expressions of Interest be sought for the future management and operation of the Warburton Caravan Park and adjacent Recreation Precinct.

4. A further report be referred to Council on responses to the Expressions of Interest process.

Link to report, recommendation & Master Plan.

My commitment, once elected is to ensure the Precinct Master Plan along with the other resolved issues are implemented as soon as possible.

My main involvement with the process was to lobby Council officers and politicians in regards to community & small business concerns relating to the potential loss of camping sites along the Yarra River.

2. How will you encourage the development of the Edgewater Resort? This has been a long standing project but nothing seems to be happening. What will you do if elected? And how have you been involved in the process to date?

As far as Council is concerned all planning issues have been resolved and this project is ready to go. The developer has had the planning permit extended for another 2 years. The question is when will the developer commence construction?

My involvement with the process was through the Council’s Warburton Recreation Reserve Master Plan gaining a commitment from Council and the developer for rear access to Warburton Hwy businesses abutting the development.

Once elected I will be lobbying the developer myself to commence development as soon as possible. Senior Council Officers, the Community and the Warburton Chamber of Commerce & Tourism will also be encouraged to do the same.

3. What would best explain your position re: local environmental concerns, the timber industry and path forward re: local development.

I’m passionate about our environment and contribute much, and I encourage others to do so.
On our Wesburn property Teresa and I have 7 acres of natural bush locked up to protect and enhance the Upper Yarra environment and biodiversity. We take advantage of solar energy and our own water supply.

Manufacturing is the biggest industry and employer in the municipality.

The timber industry is a very important part of the O’Shannassy Ward, being our largest manufacturing identity, with four mills providing from a renewable resource much needed environmentally sustainable products and importantly providing employment for our local people and a flow on to small business. So of course I’m very passionate and supportive of our local mills and the legal sustainable Timber Industry. The way forward is for the community, timber industry, small business, tourism and most of all our wonderful environment to co-exist into the future just as they have in the past.

We must maintain the balance between the legal limited use of our native regrowth renewable timber resource and the natural beauty of the Upper Yarra environment. The present strong State Government regulations based on majority science achieves that balance.
